Cây mai gây chú ý ngay từ cái nhìn đầu tiên bởi vóc dáng hiếm thấy: hoành gốc lên đến 1,35m, chiều cao khoảng 5m, tán xòe rộng hơn 12m – có thể phủ bóng mát cho nguyên một chiếc xe bán tải bên dưới.
Chưa dừng lại ở vẻ ngoài đồ sộ, cây còn đang trong giai đoạn “bung nụ vàng óng” đầy mãn nhãn. Theo anh Duy, hoa mai trên cây này thuộc dạng quý hiếm với sắc vàng rực, cánh dày, nở đều và rất lâu tàn. "Dáng cây thì đã hiếm, hoa lại đều, búp ra kín cả đầu cành, nhìn là biết cây khỏe. Đặc biệt, phần rễ nổi uốn lượn, ôm sát mặt đất rất nghệ thuật, rất có giá trị về thế lẫn tuổi", anh Duy chia sẻ.
Dù không có giấy xác định niên đại cụ thể, nhưng theo kinh nghiệm của anh và nhiều nhà vườn lâu năm, cây mai này có tuổi đời ít nhất trên 50 năm, có thể còn lâu hơn. Chính vì lẽ đó, anh không ngần ngại rao bán với giá 2 tỉ đồng – mức giá được cho là “kỷ lục” tại chợ hoa xuân Cà Mau năm nay.

Hành trình vận chuyển ấn tượng
Việc đưa một cây mai lớn như vậy từ Đồng Tháp xuống tận Cà Mau là cả một kỳ công. Để đảm bảo an toàn cho tán cây và bộ rễ, anh Duy đã thuê riêng một chiếc ghe chở gạo có tải trọng lớn, chi phí vận chuyển lên đến 20 triệu đồng chưa kể công bốc dỡ, chăm sóc trong suốt quá trình đi lại.
"Mỗi lần đưa cây đi là như đưa con đi thi vậy. Cẩn thận từng chút một. Cây lớn như vậy mà gãy một nhánh thôi cũng tiếc đứt ruột", anh Duy kể lại.
Không bán bằng mọi giá
Dù đã có vài người hỏi mua, thậm chí trả gần 1,5 tỉ đồng, nhưng anh Duy vẫn từ chối vì chưa đạt mức kỳ vọng. “Tôi mang cây đi triển lãm là để gặp được người thật sự biết chơi, biết trân quý mai. Còn giá 2 tỉ không chỉ là để bán mà còn là để khẳng định đẳng cấp của cây. Cái giá ấy không chỉ nằm ở kích thước, mà còn là cái hồn, là công chăm bón và thời gian gắn bó với nó”, anh chia sẻ.
Anh cũng tiết lộ, nếu không bán được dịp này, anh sẽ lại thuê ghe chở cây về, tiếp tục chăm sóc để năm sau đưa đi hội chợ khác, bởi “mai càng lâu năm càng có giá”.
